In 2002, I began to study under Chicagoland's Tonal Painting virtuoso Dominic Vignola. Dominic's 'Tonal Painting Method' left an indelible mark on me. Vignola was mentored by Realist icon Joseph Allworthy.
During a 1926-7 stay in Paris Allworthy said, "I was fortunate enough to study with a man who... inherited the thinking that was Chardin's, Corot's and Manet's. From that time on, my work went steadily forward in goodness and quality...in this great heritage." - Wikipedia. This man was Australian painter Max Meldrum. Even as a kid I never liked Modern or Conceptual Art. I thought it had it's place in the Art World but for me it was alot like fast food; great marketing, marginal product. Picasso for me was the artistic equivalent of Ronald MacDonald. |
